As part of its support for the community energy sector across the North East and Yorkshire, the Net Zero Hub is running free surgery sessions for Community Energy Groups and Local Authorities, working with Community Energy Groups, to consult with a range of professionals and receive advice on their local energy projects. The Surgery sessions will take place over a number of different days: with 1 hour of 1:1 tailored advice available, focussing on four key themes.
The 4 themes are as follows:
To answer questions relating to specific types of technologies which you may be considering or using for your community energy project. Eg. this could include solar, heat pumps, hydro, heat networks, hydrogen, biomass or retrofit technologies. Suitability of different technologies including a combination of solutions can be discussed for a variety of building stocks, standalone applications and different sites
This could be for questions relating to progressing your project or how to plan or manage a project. (NB this relates to project planning rather than questions regarding planning permissions). This could also be related to clarifying the objectives and defining the goals, integrating technical, financial, social, and environmental considerations, timelines, undertaking feasibility studies and resource assessments.
Help with developing your ‘business case’ to attract funding or approach funders to gain investment for your project. This could include Power Purchase Agreements or any other purchase agreements and considerations that will have an impact on business case development. This could also include different commercial, financial and funding options and commercial models available for your project.
This could involve questions relating to governance (advisory board, steering committees), the legal entity formations, decision making process, different types of organisational structure, tendering and contracting, risk management, supplier selection and options which you might be considering for your community energy project or queries around the importance of a clear and robust procurement process.
- Net Zero Project Planning and Development (February 4th and 5th 2025)
- Low Carbon Technologies (February 6th and 7th 2025)
- Governance and Procurement (February 10th and 11th 2025)
- Commercial case development (February 12th and 13th 2025)
Each Community Energy Group or Local Authority working with Community Energy Groups, has the opportunity of an hour with an expert to get answers to their questions (all questions need to be included in the booking form). All sessions will take place virtually, during work hours, and will be arranged directly by our contracted supplier, Altass. More than one member of your community group/Local Authority can attend each virtual session.
As there are a limited number of sessions/slots available, we ask that community groups only sign up to 1 session, at this time. If you are interested in another session for another theme, then please note this on the booking form, and we will allocate additional sessions if available. Any repeat bookings will be cancelled.
To make the most of your session, your questions/topics need to be submitted in advance.
The deadline for session bookings will be 4 working days before the due session, to allow our professionals time to review your questions submitted in advance.
